What Are Australian One Sheets?
Just like in the United States, Australian cinemas have long relied on one sheet movie posters as the primary way to promote new film releases in theatre lobbies. While they share a similar purpose, Australian one sheets differ in a few important ways.
Most Australian one sheets measure 27” x 40” and are typically issued unfolded, offering a cleaner, more display-ready format than many folded U.S. versions. Another notable distinction lies in the classification markings: Australian posters feature ratings from the Australian Classification Board, whereas U.S. posters show the MPAA rating.
Even the studio names or logos may differ depending on the regional distributor, meaning the same film can have different poster variants in Australia versus the U.S. This makes Australian one sheets for classic films not only unique, but often rare and highly collectible — especially pre-1950 posters, when print runs were often limited to 200 copies or fewer.
