AUSTRALIAN 1 SHEETS

As in the United States, Australian cinemas have also relied on one sheets as the primary vehicle for promoting a new film release in a cinema lobby. The main differences between American and Australian one sheets lie in the dimensions and the number of folds. Australian one sheets almost always measure 27” x 40”. They are typically unfolded.

Another difference: the rating system printed on the posters. U.S 1 Sheets will have a rating issued by the Motion Picture Association of America whereas Australian one sheets include a rating issued by the Classification Board in Australia.

The two posters for the same film, one in the U.S. and one in Australia, might also reflect the names of different studios depending on which releasing studio issued the one sheet. Australian one sheets for classic films can be very rare and hard to find — before 1950, most studios printed only 200 or fewer posters for new releases.
