U.S 1 SHEETS

The American “one sheet” is perhaps the most well-known type of classic film poster. These are vertical advertisements produced by studios to promote films. Sizes vary but are typically 27” x 31” to 41”. Today they are typically 40” tall. American one sheets are considered to be among the most collectible types of classic film posters. While most one sheets are standalone pieces, sometimes studios would use multiple posters to create a larger billboard with 24 to 30 sheets.

Earlier American one sheet posters were folded four times: once vertically and three times horizontally. When assessing authenticity, collectors will want to look for the four creases. Today, most American one sheets are shipped to movie theaters in poster roll tubes, so posters issued for films released from the mid-1980s on would not have any creases.
